Playing at a private club in Malaysia as a visitor

How guest sign-ins, reciprocal memberships and dress codes work at Malaysian private clubs with tennis courts.

Private clubs in Malaysia have some of the best-kept courts, but you usually need a way in. There are three common routes.

1. A member signs you in

Most clubs let members bring guests. The member books the court, signs you in at reception, and pays a guest fee. Guest fees at Klang Valley clubs range from about RM20 to RM55 per hour.

2. Reciprocal membership

If your home club has a reciprocal arrangement, you may be able to play as a visiting member. Bring a letter of introduction and your membership card. Reciprocal visitors usually cannot bring their own guests.

3. Short-term membership

Some clubs sell short-term or non-resident memberships, and memberships are often resold second-hand.

Dress code

Expect proper tennis clothing and non-marking shoes. Some clubs do not allow sleeveless shirts, jeans or slippers anywhere on the premises.
